(Heb 6:1) “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,”“Repentance of dead works”: the flesh does not and cannot merit salvation from the sins we have committed. The Jews, instead of seeing the sacrifices as needed for breaking God’s law, saw merit in the act: (Rom 10:3 ) “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”
