(Heb 3:9) “When your fathers…saw my works forty years. (10) Wherefore….They do alway err in their heart;…(11) So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)”   The Holy Spirit here demonstrates there comes a time when God says, “Here it ends. You have rebelled enough.” It is false to says one can be saved whenever they like: (Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, (8) Harden not your hearts,”

They had the visual presence of God (fire, the cloud, continuously). They had laws of instruction. Yet, their hearts – the core of who and what they were – was corrupt, rebellious. (Heb 3:9) “When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works forty years. 10)  Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known My ways.”  Here we have concrete proof that religious actions along with the very presence of God doesn’t even result in godliness. It can still result in sinful rebellion. Every person who believes still needs a “new heart” (Ezekiel 18 & 36).

(Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear His voice, 8) Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9)  When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works forty years.”   Their historical reaction – rebellion. Result: temptation brought judgment; testing Him found He was faithful; His works – always, always right.

(Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,”  One needs to take heed to the Holy Spirit’s voice – “today”. As Israel proved over and over again, the average person lacks a heart to turn in obedience to walk God’s way. God’s desire: (Deu_5:29) “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!”

(Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,”  One needs to take heed to the word “today”. We often speak one being saved tomorrow. That is an offer not made in Scripture. The call to respond is today. Count the privilege and respond rightly today.

(Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,”  God gave man a freewill to exercise either to his good or evil. One has a choice whether to listen or ignore Him. If listening results in obedient response – one lives. If listening results in inaction on our part – we bear God’s judgment.

(Heb 3:6) “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”     Our “rejoicing of the hope” is why we have the “confidence” – assurance of heart. “Hope” means a confident waiting for a sure coming event! I stand not upon my goodness, nor my efforts, but upon having been put “in” Christ Jesus my Lord.

(Heb 3:6) “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”   “If we hold fast the confidence”: the word confidence has to do with a strong faith that speaks out with boldness. At the heart of doubt is a question as to the truthfulness of God to keep His promise. 

(Heb 3:6) “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”   This book holds forth that Bible “faith” is the action of resting, acting, upon what God says. God sees such and bestows – in this case salvation. The result is that it continues all the way through whatever this life brings. Such are a part of “The House of Christ”.
