(2 Ti 2:19c) “….And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”  The saved carry the Name of Jesus everywhere we go and in everything we do. We are by adoption God’s children. He lives inside our bodies in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Do we dare defile our bodies through fleshly activities? His Name, His reputation, should mean so much to us that we would neglect self in order to bring honor that that Name!

(2Ti 2:19a)  “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His….”   “The foundation of God standeth sure”, that is, that He is holy and thus cannot lie. Nor does He fail. Every promise made He shall keep. He promised not only to save our soul but also to resurrect the bodies of the saved with immorality. That day is coming soon!

 (2Ti 2:19a)  “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His….”   We might question whether those who have gone astray were really His children. Only God knows; but He “does” know! That’s the point. “If” we think them lost, then lovingly seek to give them the gospel. That….is our responsibility.

(2Ti 2:18)  “Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.”  This would be like saying the Rapture has occurred and you missed it. Friend, although the lost won’t see it, it will be known to all, for even the babies and the children too young to understand Jesus’ death was for their sin will be gone. Hold to the Word of God, for God never lies nor fails!

DAILY DROP OF WATER  (2Ti 2:16) “ But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (17)  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;”  Remember, everything you put into  your mind stays there. False doctrine, put in, harms us. You and I need to read the Word of God more than anything else. It alone can you trust. We read men about the Bible as a shortcut. Sit at the feet of Jesus instead. The Holy Spirit inside you will do the teaching.

(2Ti 2:16) “But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”   Notice that seeking for knowledge not given plainly by the Holy Spirit is ungodly, and leads down a path that ends in greater ungodliness. If we humbly sit at the feet of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will teach us more and more things. Our God sees the heart. Pray that any hidden motivations be revealed that you might confess them as sin.

(2Ti 2:16) “But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”  The word “profane” indicates the crossing of a threshold. It enters into fruitless (babblings) speculation that moves away from the plain teaching of Scripture – what God has said. As you will see in the coming verses, open your Bible, read the Gospels (life of Jesus) and the Epistles (they teach you how to live) and cling to them!  

(2Ti 2:15) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  The Holy Spirit said to “rightly divide the Word of Truth”. God holds us responsible for how we interpret Scripture – yes, you as well as the preacher. We often pass along what some other has said. Be sure what the other has said is true, for you are held responsible by God.

(2Ti 2:15) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”   What is the proof that you have truly been born again, birthed into the family of God? The only proof of a change in you is a true love and devotion to God your Father, putting Him first in every way. Jesus said, “If ye love Me, keep My commandments”. This would naturally prompt one to go to the Bible to learn His commandments. Does your knowledge of the Bible say, “I am approved of God”?

(2Ti 2:15) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  Judge for yourself: it is better to read what others write about the Bible; or to read directly what God has said letting the Holy Spirit teach you?  Who is more likely to be wrong?
