DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 13:5) “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”  A person should know they are saved, not by self convincing, but by Divine promptings towards spiritual things. The Holy Spirit speaks to our new living spirit. He gives a desire to please God, a thirst for the Word of God, a need to obey its Words, to seek guidance through the local church on how to accomplish those things, a need to fellowship with the Lord.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 13:3) “Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.”  No matter who the giver of accurate Bible teaching, no matter how weak, young, or old the vessel, it’s power is present to speak to the hearts. This is because it is not the physical effort, but instead the Spirit of God Who speaks directly to the heart of man (Zech 4:6; Jn 1:13; Rom 9:16).

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 13:1) “This is the third time I am coming to you,…(2)  I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:”  Paul has expressed himself so far as if he was there with them, giving them the clear direction of how they should have responded. Now he plainly says, “I will not back down from the authority God has give me, nor from the words and teaching of holiness and truth.” God’s people are love to Him above all others – period. It is to be the aim of our hearts.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 13:1) “This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”  Church leaders seem to be willing to deal with problems any way but with direct truth used as lovingly as possible. It means having those with knowledge of the problem attest to the problem. Notice the church is to use the guidance of God’s law (which is perfect in every way) – “two or three witnesses”.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 12:21) “And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.”   “Bewail”: to grieve so deeply that an utterance escapes the body in the form or a moan or a crying out of heartbreak. What troubles the heart of our God should trouble our own heart.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 12:20) “For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:”  These sinful practices are matters of self-will instead of God directed. Love for self is at the heart of most conflicts. Our hearts are to be aimed towards love for the Lord directed to include love for others first.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 12:19) “Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.”  “Excuse”: Plead for self as if guilty of wrong. The answer is a firm “no”. What has been stated is not excuse, but truth. It’s only purpose given is for their spiritual good. The Holy Spirit is not having Paul lift up self, but instead hold forth truth (fact) for their good, not necessarily Paul’s.

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(Co 12:17) “Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? (18) I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?”  A pastor or missionary has to have resources to live in this world. Yet, Paul and staff are trusting the Lord Who said, (Mat_6:33) “ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

DAILY DROP OF WATER

(2Co 12:16) “But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.”  Remember: false prophets have come promoting self, and as such were embraced by God’s people, giving them financial support and esteem. Paul is saying, “I did none of those things. Apparently if I had I would be embraced and held forth as your spiritual father.” Instead, I caught you (your souls), as it were by what is not being held up by them – guile. In what way? Simply by the preaching of the gospel.
