 (Heb 1:9) “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even Thy God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.”  I find the phrase, “God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness”, interesting. Priests and Kings were anointed; and Jesus is both. “Oil of gladness”: He Who suffered as none other will have nothing but good – gladness – for here on out!

(Heb 1:9) “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even Thy God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.”  The evidence of the Lord Jesus’ love for righteousness is evidenced by not only the acceptance of Him as the Passover Lamb offering, but also of the very declaration: (Heb 4:15) “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” 

 (Heb 1:8) “But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Thy kingdom.”   The “sceptre of righteousness” refers to the manner in which the Lord Jesus will rule. The term is reflected in these Words: (Deu 32:4) “He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.”

(Heb 1:8) “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”  Notice the Son, proclaimed as God, now has an everlasting throne for an everlasting Person. He is King now, awaiting the predetermined time of His return to reign on this earth a thousand years. Then, this earth destroyed and a new earth on which He will reign forever! Praise Him!

(Heb 1:8) “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”  The LORD God has established through His Word the Deity of Christ Jesus. In doing so, the trinity of the Godhead is revealed: (Isa 43:10) “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.”  That leaves only one conclusion to draw; the two are not separate – but one.

 (Heb 1:7) “And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.”  Comparing Jesus claimed as God’s Son and the angels are called to worship Him (v.6),  the angels are not made flesh but are made spirit-beings. Also, they are made for the purpose of ministering, not (as Jesus) for the sacrifice of sin followed by exaltation.  

(Heb 1:6) “And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.”  And they did,  (Luk 2:13) “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, (14) Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”  I wonder, “Did this multitude of voices wake up sleeping  Bethlehem? Who knows…..maybe even further around the world?

(Heb 1:5) “For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?”   These things have only been spoken to and of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has been singled out with these two quotes of Old Testament prophecy. In the New Testament the Holy Spirit uttered through the Son, “For God so loved the world that He gave HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON…..”.  Praise His Name!

(Heb 1:4) “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”   We have no record indicating angels have possessions. Satan laid claim to (Luk 4:5)  “…all the kingdoms of the world…(6) …All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me;…”  No, upon the resurrection of our Lord Jesus, the inheritance of “all things” became His – including the angels themselves (Col 1:14-16)!

(Heb 1:4) “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”  Jesus’ inheritance came about not through the death of His Father; but through His Own death. Remember Verse 2, “…. whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”.  Uncommon to our thoughts, the great mind of God proclaims, “You made it. It is Yours. You will become man, (Jn 1:10 “ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”,  be rejected and killed by man (v.11 “… his own received him not.), and rise again as Heir!
