WATER  (1Co 1:30) “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:”  After fifty years of the reading of Scripture, I are more and more amazed at the deep plan (wisdom) of our salvation.

(1Co 1:30) “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” God Who taught oneness in marriage, sees the saved as one with His Son – “are ye in Christ Jesus”.

(1Co 1:29) “That no flesh should glory in his presence.”  Oh how corrupt this old flesh is to even begin to think it can add anything to the sacrifice of the humble, giving, healing, saving blood of the Lord Jesus!

(1Co 1:28) “And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:” “Things which are not” – in other words, things promised by God rather than things one can see: (Rom_8:24)  “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?”  It is not human strength nor prestige, but faith in He Who has promised, that saves.

(1Co 1:27) “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”  Why would this be? Proverbs tells us God hates pride. Isaiah tells us it was and is Satan’s heart. Our old nature reeks of it. But when one in weakness demonstrates the power of the Spirit of God speaking to the very heart of a sinner, it is God alone Who is lifted up!

(1Co 1:26) “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:” There is a pride that comes with worldly knowledge and achievement. I read once that the further one goes college studying the Bible (study- Southern Baptist Colleges – 1970s) the less they believe it. It is not that the Bible has been proved wrong, but that men feel able to critic It. Sad.

(1Co 1:26) “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:” It is a Bible truth that the Lord speaks (calls) individual hearts to be saved. He is indeed a personal Savior.

(1Co 1:25) “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”  As the world looks to a man hanging on a cross, they saw and still see weakness. They fail to see it was strength beyond measure. Love held God in human flesh there, even for the person fooled by its appearance.

(1Co 1:25) “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;….” add (1Co 1:23) “But we preach Christ crucified,….unto the Greeks foolishness;” It is foolishness because of a lack of Old Testament knowledge, for the Lord declared “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin”. It is seen throughout human history portrayed in blood sacrifices.

(1Co 1:24) “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”  God calls all, but all will not hear or they choose not to respond: (Heb 3:7) “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,  (8)  Harden not your hearts,…”
