(Tit 3:4) “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, (5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,…” “Mercy”: to be pardoned from the punishment of one’s offense. Only the guilty need mercy. How can God, Who is holy, simply pardon one’s sin? He cannot and does not. Jesus was paying for that sin on Calvary’s cross to that we might receive mercy!
